Manama: Teachers in Qatar's independent schools are to be paid a minimum of QR2,000 (Dh2,017.97) monthly under a new scale to boost salaries.

The salary increases will be implemented next month and will include the licence owners as well as the Qatari and expatriate teachers and staff.

"The salary of a teacher will begin at QR20,000, including allowances while the licence owner’s salary will reach QR60,000 including allowances," The Peninsula reported.

A ‘villages allowance’ for those working in remote areas and a ‘language institute’ allowance for those holding language institute diplomas will be added to the regular, technology, training and telephone allowances.

Qatari nationals who specialise in mathematics, English and science could also benefit from eight suggested allowances.

A comprehensive electronic system is to be used by accountants and officials to calculate the salaries and the allowances.
