Manama: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has selected Qatar's foreign ministry to manage the ad hoc project linking the GCC foreign ministries in the member-states via a safe and unified communication network, Qatar News Agency (QNA) said.

Qatar's selection was based on its success in linking the foreign ministry with all its diplomatic missions abroad in a secure and safe way and in co-operation with local and international companies operating in the field of international networks, the agency said.

According to QNA, the ministry is currently working on the implementation of the second and third phases of the ministry's plan.

The ministry is also enforcing the e-visas system in more than 60 diplomatic missions to upgrade and speed up the process of applications by people keen on visiting Qatar and is working on modernising its website and launching websites for the Qatari missions abroad, QNA said.
