Manama: Qatar's Emir Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, on Tuesday, warned that the failure by the Arab states to solve their problems will result in foreign intervention.
"We have long-standing problems in our Arab world and they carry within them the threat of further aggravation and terrible consequences if we do not work together within the Arab world to find just solutions," Shaikh Hamad said.
"Should we fail, and the problems worsen, we will have no option but to leave the area for others and request them to do what we have been unable to achieve," the Emir said at the opening of the Shura Council.
In his speech, Shaikh Hamad said the Arab world is still suffering from huge problems and chronic issues that range from Palestine to Yemen.
"There has been no progress in the Palestinian cause and the latest developments and the collapse of the peace talks have left us with no hope that a just peace is near," he said.
The Emir, however, stressed that wars and aggression have never lead to peace. "I also urge the Palestinians brothers to set aside their differences and achieve a genuine reconciliation that reinforces their positions and unifies their views at this historic moment of the Palestinian cause," he said.
Shaikh Hamad said the situation in Sudan and lead to serious problems that required wisdom and vision from all parties involved. "We hope that all parties will assume their responsibilities fully," he said.
The Emir added that Qatar supports all efforts to achieve security and stability in Iraq. "We urge all Iraqi political powers to work together for the formation of the government, which will boost the principle of efficient and balanced political participation, in a way that preserves the rights of all Iraqis and fulfills their national aspirations, and reinforces the country's unity, sovereignty and solidarity," he said.
Shaikh Hamad also spoke of Lebanon.
"We affirm our support for this fraternal country and for the steps to implement the Doha agreement, which was backed regionally and internationally. We urge all Lebanese parties to adopt the language of constructive dialogue and place higher national interests at the top, in order to ensure Lebanon's safety, security and stability," he said.
Yemen's unity and stability are vital for Yemen and the region, the Emir added.
"We stress our keenness on Yemen's stability, unity and territorial integrity. However, we also call upon all parties to work for the higher interests of the people and to continue together their progress towards further reforms and the consolidation of the national unity. We are confident that the Yemeni government will provide the necessary means to confront all challenges and spare the Yemeni people further suffering.”
