Manama: Eid holidays in Qatar this year, for schools and public sector employees, are to last for 10 days.

According to Al Arab daily newspaper, the vacation will start on November 11 and end on November 21.

Qatari authorities traditionally grant a three-day holiday on Eid Al Adha, expected to be on November 16, and one day before it, to mark the pilgrims' gathering around Mount Arafat near Makkah, an important annual ritual for pilgrims.

"The holidays were initially scheduled to start on November 15, but since there's only one working day between the weekend and the Eid holidays, the authorities will be giving Sunday off as well," the paper reported on Monday, quoting "well-informed sources".

It added that the banking sector will be given only four days, depending on the start of Eid Al Adha.

The 10-day break is expected to fuel debate in Gulf countries about the vast discrepancies between the public and the private sectors, in the holidays granted to their employees.
