Manama: Doha has been selected as the permanent venue for the Offshore Middle East Conference and Exhibition, Qatar's deputy prime minister said.

Addressing the opening session of the Offshore Middle East Conference and Exhibition in Doha, Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, who is also the energy and industry minister, was quoted by Qatar News Agency (QNA) as saying that Qatar was the ideal place for the event, in light of its powerful economic structure and its possession of huge natural resources, especially natural gas.

According to Al Attiyah, the Middle East has about 61 per cent of oil reserves and about 41 per cent of the gas reserves in the world.

The three-day conference aims to attract global and regional oil and gas companies and specialised companies in the energy sector, to exchange information, as well as to explore business opportunities and new developments in the field of offshore oil and gas.
