Manama: An allocated area to accommodate expatriate bachelors in Qatar will have four cinemas and 385 shops, a local daily reported.
"Bachelors' City", a small town being constructed in the Industrial Zone near Doha, will also feature an open theatre that can accommodate big crowds attending concerts and special functions and a large cricket stadium, the game favoured by the Asian community, that can be used for local and international competitions, Arabic daily Al Sharq said on Thursday.
The recreational, commercial and sports town is set to accommodate thousands of mainly unskilled single labourers following a decision to relocate them from residential areas, mainly in Doha.
Qatari authorities made the decision to move out bachelors from residential areas after Qatari nationals have repeatedly complained about "the lack of respect from expatriates for local values and traditions and their ominous menaces to the Qatari way of life" and vociferously called for their relocation to ease simmering tension between locals and expatriates.
Reports said that around one million more workers are expected to arrive in Qatar for the mega projects to be executed over the next 10 years for the 2022 World Cup.
