Doha: Al Jazeera Children's Channel (JCC) under the patronage of her Her Highness Shaikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education Science and Community Development, launched last week Taalam.TV- the first Arabic video-on-demand, educational portal for schools and educators.

Taalam.TV, which means Learn TV, is an integrated learning website that constitutes an educational complementary tool for teachers and students in school and at home.

It will bring to the classroom database of educational materials and videos extracted from JCC programmes content to make teaching more stimulating and engaging, hence, allowing students to store, process and recall information more rapidly.

"I am proud and happy with this new achievement that answers to both QF and JCC's mission to empower the Arab children and enhance their personal capabilities and cognitive abilities by opening up new knowledge horizons and introducing modern learning tools," said Mahmoud Bouneb, the Executive General Manager for Al Jazeera Children's Channel.

"Our research has revealed that children pay a remarkable amount of attention to audio-visual presentations. With 'Taalam.TV', primary and elementary school teachers can now bring lessons to life by using a wide array of short educational videos, fact sheets, graphics and a rich image library intended to help students achieve a greater understanding of the different subjects presented in class," said Bouneb,

About the project

Taalam.TV is an ongoing collaborative project between Qatar Foundation, JCC and the Arab educational communities. The portal was fully developed by JCC's website and multimedia team in collaboration with a group of Arab teachers and experts, who verified the educational information of the videos and composed the supplementary tools, such as fact sheets and sample exercises.

The portal will work as a platform for teachers to exchange experiences, share information and easily communicate with others in the field across the Arab World.

"I would encourage every teacher and school to explore the portal, evaluate the audio-visual educational content and provide us with their comments and input," Bouneb said.
