Manama: Five people were killed and two seriously injured in a car crash in Qatar’s capital Doha on Monday.
According to local media, the incident occurred near Hamad International Airport in the afternoon. The car caught fire after it was hit by an sport utility vehicle (SUV).
One newspaper said the victims were all Filipinos, but no formal identification has been announced yet. Other newspapers reported that a Philippine embassy official, who visited the hospital mortuary, said all bodies have been burnt beyond recognition.
A day earlier — the second day of Eid Al Adha — three people were killed in a car crash near the Doha Corniche.
Four cars were reportedly involved in the incident.
Qatar announced a one-week holiday for both citizens and expatriates for Eid Al Adha.
Qatari authorities have been pushing for better traffic culture to limit crashes on the country’s busy roads.
