Duo kills man to steal his car and lures him with fake medicine they claim could cure him
Muscat: The Buraimi Criminal Court has sentenced two Omanis to life in prison for killing a man in 2009.
The two were also ordered to pay 15,000 Omani riyals as blood money to the parents of the victim, and were told to return the car they stole from him, the Public Prosecution said in a press release. The court also asked the duo to pay legal expenses to the victim's family.
The two planned the murder to steal victim's car. The victim had come to them for traditional medicine to cure an unknown ailment, and was taken to a remote area in the desert of Saih Al Awqdah in Buraimi.
The two gave the victim some drink that they said would cure his illness. After taking the drink, the victim lost consciousness and the two strangled him to death. His body was dumped in the desert.
The Public Prosecutor's press release has not revealed murdered youngster's name but local English daily Times of Oman identified him as 20-year-old Hadi Dhafir Al Ahbabi. The report also said that the victim's relatives had demanded an autopsy to determine the exact cause of his death.
