Muscat: US President Donald Trump’s fake tweet on Oman’s 1-0 win over Bahrain in the semi-final of Gulf Cup in Kuwait on Monday has gone viral on social media platforms.

Many users have shared the Photoshopped fake tweet which claimed that Trump congratulated the Omani team and wants the guy from Bahla province for a job against North Korean President Kim Jong-un.

“Great win for Omanis! Need the guy from Bahla to do a job against N. Korean crazy little man”, the fake tweet reads.

The screen shot of WhatsApp conversation of Omani guy from Bahla predicted the 1-0 win against Bahrain before the match also had been circulated.

“Oman will win. The Bahraini player will make a goal by mistake,” the conversation reads.

The president’s Tuesday evening tweet came in response to Kim’s New Year’s address, in which he repeated fiery nuclear threats against the United States. Kim said he has a “nuclear button” on his office desk and warned that “the whole territory of the US is within the range of our nuclear strike”.

Trump mocked that assertion, writing, “Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!”

Meanwhile, Omanis took to the streets to celebrate their country’s passage into the final of the Gulf Cup.

The final of the Gulf Cup will be played on Friday Oman and the UAE at Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait City.
