Muscat: The police in Oman have arrested three Pakistanis on charges of kidnapping a compatriot for ransom, according to a Royal Oman Police (ROP) press release on Monday.

The kidnap victim’s brother approached Ruwi Police station in Muscat and complained about the three accused. “He complained that the accused were demanding [an unspecified amount of] money for his release,” a police spokesman said.

After thorough investigations and questioning of several people, the police traced the accused to an old habitat in Birka area in the north of the country.

“The police teams raided the dwelling in the remote area of Birka and freed the victim, who was an illegal resident, from the clutches of the kidnappers,” the spokesman added.

The raiding police party also stumbled upon 22 illegal expatriates in the dwelling during the raid to free the kidnapped victim.

All the three accused have been referred to the Public Prosecutor.
