Muscat: Another Sohar detainee has reportedly resorted to hunger strike in detention, according to Ahmad Mohammad, one of the activists from the Industrial Port Town, 230km north of Muscat.
"Abdullah Al Badi was dragged to Sohar police station under the pretext of traffic violation last Thursday when heavy security prevented any demonstrations," Ahmad told Gulf News from Sohar.
He said the 21-year-old Sohar University student was taken straight to Muscat after being taken to Sohar Police station for traffic violation.
No information about charges
He said so far there has been no official information about the charges against Abdullah Al Badi. "We believe that he is being charged for breach of public security and also for some of his postings on social media sites and local forums."
He further said that the security services had promised that once they finished with his interrogation they would contact his family.
"Until now there has been neither any contact nor any statement on his arrest from the security agencies," Ahmad pointed out.
He said that they had already written to the Amnesty International regarding Abdullah Al Badi's detention. "We are waiting for their reply."
Apparently, Abdullah Al Badi is the only activist now under detention after the release of Ali Bakhit Al Badi and Khalfan Al Muqbali, who was first arrested in last March for heading the ‘Dragon Gang'.
