Muscat: Six female students sustained minor injuries due to a fire that broke out in the female rest room in Sohar University on Sunday afternoon.

It took the personnel at the Public Authority for Civil Defense and Ambulance (PACDA), two hours to douse the fire.

The students were transported to Sohar hospital for medical treatment but were later discharged, an official at PACDA told Gulf News. The reason behind the incident was due to a faulty electric line, the official added.

The incident sparked panic among students, leading to evacuate students from the spot where the fire took place. Salim Al Jabri, a student, told Gulf News that he saw the smoke from outside of the university premises. Al Jabri added that such incident was the first in the university since its establishment.

Meanwhile, a fire broke in one of the warehouses in Seeb province of Muscat governorate on Sunday afternoon. No casulaities have been reported, the official affirmed.
