Muscat: Seven expatriate workers sustained serious injuries after a building under construction collapsed in Bausher province of Muscat governorate on Wednesday evening.

First responders from the Public Authority of Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) rushed to the scene and rescued the Bangladeshi and Indian workers.

The injured workers were transferred to Khoulah hospital where the condition of some of them was stated to be unstable, hospital sources told Gulf News.

An official at the PACDA said they suspect that the collapse was due to the weak foundation of the building.

The official added that the failure to take proper safety measures like wearing of safety helmets at the building site had resulted in the severe injuries to the workers.

In February, an Indian worker was killed and another sustained severe injuries in a wall collapse in a building under construction in Ruwi area of Mutrah province.

In May, 2015, three people — an Omani and two Asians — were killed in a wall collapse in Al Abyad area of Nakhal province.

In April 2015, two Asian workers were killed in a landslide in Qurum district of Muscat.
