Muscat: Four citizens were killed and six received injuries in two separate accidents, according to a spokesman of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) on Sunday.
The horrific crash near Ibri, about 270km northwest of Muscat, reduced a SUV into a mangle of steel after a head-on collision with a loaded seven tonne trailer truck.
“The SUV went under the truck at a high speed and was completely crushed,” a spokesman for the ROP’s Public Relations Department told Gulf News.
“The truck driver, who was slightly injured in the crash, was shocked to see the SUV in his path while driving in the direction of Bahla on a single carriage road,” he said.
He added that before the truck driver could even react the car went under his trailer. Both the Omani occupants of the car were crushed to death in the accident early in the morning on Sunday.
A heavy duty crane had to be employed to lift the truck to remove the crushed SUV from beneath.
“Another collision involving three vehicles killed two Omanis and injured five others in the Eastern Region,” he said but had no further details about the accident in Jalan Bani Bu Ali, about 230km east of Muscat, latae Saturday evening.
