Muscat: The parents of an abandoned two-year-old girl in Buraimi province have yet to be located, the Ministry of Social Development has said.

The girl is still being cared for at the Child Care Centre in Buraimi province, local media reported. The girl was found on Friday evening crying and alone in Buraimi Public Park.

On Monday, she will be transferred to the Al Wefaq Care Centre in Muscat under the supervision of the Royal Oman Police.

The girl’s nationality has not yet been determined, but she speaks a few words in Arabic in the local Omani accent.

Many families have have offered to adopt the girl after her picture went viral on social media.

Many users have criticised the “ruthlessness” of girl’s parents for abandoning her.

Omanis have poured in to donate toys, food and clothes for the little girl.

In 2014, two brothers were found abandoned in Qurum Park in the capital Muscat. Their parents have never been located, but the boys were adopted by an Omani family in March of this year.

Over 124 abandoned children are being housed in child care centres nationwide. At least 190 abandoned children have been adopted by Omani families, according to the Ministry of Social Development.
