Muscat: Oman is a pioneer among GCC states in conducting field studies on citizens' empowerment, according to Dr Sultan Bin Hassan Al Dossary, Qatari Minister of Labour.
Dr Al Dossary, was speaking after both the countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on labour. The pact was inked on the sidelines of the bilateral session of talks held on Saturday. Dr Juma Bin Ali Al Juma, Oman's Minister of Manpower, and Dr Al Dossary signed the agreement.
The Qatari minister pointed out that his visit to Oman was in response to an invitation by Dr Juma to sign the MoU and to review Oman's successful experience in training and providing employment to its national workforce.
The Qatari Minister pointed out Oman's self- employment programme for nationals - Sanad Project. "Oman is a pioneer in empowering its national workforce through well chalked out projects [such as Sanad] and vocational training," he felt.
Talking about the agreement, he said: "The MoU relates to exchanging expertise, studies, technological training, visits and organising seminars."
Already 2,500 Omani nationals are currently employed in Qatar and the number is expected to rise after the agreement. "There are more job opportunities for Omanis in specialised and technical jobs," he added.
