Muscat: Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Sunday hosted a tea party for the senior officers of the Armed Forces as well as the Royal Oman Police at the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces at Hisn Al Shomoukh in Manah 150km northwest of Muscat to mark the Sultan’s Armed Forces’ (SAF) Annual Day.

The Annual Day of SAF is observed on December 11 every year.

According to a report by ONA, the Sultanate has adopted a number of plans to provide the SAF with advanced equipment and weapons including tanks, armoured personnel carriers, rockets and artillery systems, armoured vehicles, fighter jets, helicopters, frigates and advanced vessels.

The Royal Army of Oman (RAO) has witnessed great development in terms of organisation, training, facilities, service utilities and modern telecommunications. The capabilities of the Royal Air Force of Oman (Rafo) has been enhanced with advanced jets, logistic planes, helicopters, air defence systems such as anti-aircraft rocket batteries, radars, training aircrafts and training simulators.

This year, three A320-300 air transport planes joined service along with the first group of NH90 helicopters. Last year, an agreement was signed for the purchase of two transport aircrafts, one is J2130 and the other Airbus 320A. Due to the Sultanate’s strategic location and its supervision of one of the most important straits in the world the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) plays an effective role in protecting the national interests in terms of security and economically via its presence in Omani waters.
