Muscat: Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed felicitated military and civil personnel for their service during and after Cyclone Gonu which devastated Oman in June.

"The extraordinary events proved, thanks to the Almighty, the power of this country and the strong bonds among and the unity of its people," the Omani leader said during the felicitation function held at Bait Al Baraka.

"It clearly reflected an honourable image of solidarity and collaboration," he said, according to Oman News Agency.

He also conveyed to every Omani citizen that he was proud of them. "We appreciate your loyal, unlimited efforts and commendable noble stands and also like to express our thanks and appreciation for all brothers and friends for their noble and supportive stance," he added.

Sultan Qaboos conferred the Royal Commendation Order, First Class, on Lieutenant General Malek Bin Sulaiman Al Maamari, Inspector General of Police and Customs, and Abdullah Bin Abbas Bin Ahmad, Chairman of Muscat Municipality.

He also conferred Royal Commendation Order, Second and Third Class, to a number of military, Royal Oman Police and civilian officials in appreciation of their rehabilitation work.
