Muscat: Oman’s Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed on Tuesday presided his first cabinet meeting in Muscat since returning home following two months of periodical medical tests.

Sultan Qaboos, who returned to Muscat on April 12, reiterated that other sources of sustainable income should be found with a view to adapting to all changing scenarios.

Qaboos reviewed local, regional and international issues, reported Oman News Agency.

He expressed satisfaction with the accomplishments made by the country, noting that Oman’s march of development advances at suitable rates as planned and emphasising that the sultanate should go ahead with the policy of economic diversification.

Qaboos reiterated the significance of safeguarding the gains made so far and the need to continue upgrading the capabilities of Omanis and developing human resources to set up a productive springboard in all sectors through ideal utilisation of the sultanate’s unique geographical location.

He also underscored the importance of encouraging local and foreign investments in productive projects of public benefit which provide employment opportunities for citizens and generate lucrative economic revenue. He pointed out that all development plans place the concerns of citizens and their service on top of priorities.

While reviewing developments in the regional and international arenas, Qaboos reiterated the sultanate’s continued cooperation and support for all efforts aimed at the rapprochement of views and reiterated Oman’s stand on helping resolve all issues in a manner that enables all nations to continue their growth tracks in secure and stable conditions.

Sultan Qaboos returned to Muscat on April 12 from Germany, where he had been undergoing periodical medical tests for certain conditions for the last two months, which authorities said had been successfully treated.

Social media was abuzz with the sultan’s return, circulating news from Muscat International Airport, which went viral. Nationals also launched two hashtags on Twitter “Be happy! Qaboos has arrived” and “Be cheerful and commend him to the protection of our prayer’.

Sultan Qaboos had undergone an eight-month medical treatment in Germany in July 2014. He returned to the country in March last year.
