Muscat: A young Omani engineer, who was planning his honeymoon trip, hit the jackpot over the weekend when his name was drawn as the winner of the BankMuscat Al Mazyona 400,000 Omani (Dh3.8 million) prize.

Abdullah Mohammad Al Nabhani, who married recently, received a phone call telling him that he had the draw that was held to in Salalah to coincide with the Salalah Tourism Festival.

A young petroleum engineer employed by the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Al Nabhani couldn’t believe the news.

When Saada Al Harthy, the Regional Manager of Central Capital, invited him to the Mina Al Fahal branch to celebrate his good fortune, he found that the bank was packed with employees and well-wishers, mainly from PDO.

Al Nabhani said he’d enjoyed a long-standing relationship with BankMuscat, which started when he opened a savings account as a student at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). After joining the PDO in 2006, one of the first things he did was to transfer his account from SQU to the Mina Al Fahal branch.

Asked what he intended to do with the prize money, the young man told how he wanted to start by buying a gift for his newlywed wife. He also intends to invest in a house and donate to charity in keeping with the holy month of Ramadan.

Sulaiman Al Harthi, Group DGM of Consumer Banking, said: “We congratulate Al Nabhani for winning the jackpot prize. He represents the youth of Oman who are aware of their responsibilities, especially the need for maintaining prudent savings habits. Customers banking with BankMuscat are rewarded with attractive prizes such as Al Mazyona and personalised services.”

This year Oman is celebrating its 40th Renaissance anniversary, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. In line with its commitment to complement national initiatives, the BankMuscat has launched a year-long celebration titled ‘Oman Celebrates’ to mark the 40th Renaissance anniversary.

“The all-new Al Mazyona savings scheme was the first in the series of the ‘Oman Celebrates’ campaign initiatives and the grand draw affirms the Bank's vision and constant efforts to fulfill the aspirations and ambitions of the largest banking family in Oman,” Al Harthi added.

As part of the Al Mazyona savings scheme, BankMuscat offers a daily prize of 4,000 riyals for customers maintaining a minimum balance of 100 riyals and a monthly prize of 40,000 riyals for customers with a minimum balance of 1000 riyals.

The highlight of the Al Mazyona initiative is the jackpot prize of 400,000 every four months, for customers maintaining a minimum balance of 1000 riyals for three months.
