Muscat: Oman's indigenous methods for optimum use of water resources will be documented and showcased at a permanent exhibition for the benefit of the future generation.

Shaikh Abdullah Bin Salim Al Rowas, Regional Municipalities and Water Resources Minister, on Saturday said that the permanent exhibition for water in Nizwa will document Oman's heritage and its achievements in water resources management.

Al Rowas highlighted the aflaj channels' engineering, which he said "is considered a source of admiration and appreciation by international organisations".

He hoped the exhibit will become a tourist landmark and would contribute in upgrading the level of awareness in water preservation.

According to a report by ONA news agency, Omani leader Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed has issued Royal orders to establish the exhibit centre.

Sultan Qaboos said that the exhibition will showcase the skills of Omanis in utilising available water resources and in using indigenous engineering basics.

The exhibit will feature an Omani village where water resources management techniques will be employed.

"The exhibition will also contribute in providing information and data for researchers and those interested in water resources management in the Sultanate," minister Al Rowas said.
