Muscat: The Authority for Electricity Regulation says it has conducted a lengthy investigation over the electricity and water disruption witnessed in Muscat and Sohar provinces.

The authority affirmed that it had commissioned international experts to assess the performance of the service provider, Muscat Electricity Distribution Company.

Qais Al Zakwani, chief executive officer of the regulatory authority, said that the authority was not satisfied about the time it took the Sohar Power company to resupply customers with water in three governorates.

Al Zakwani added that the authority will take into account the measures needed to be taken to prevent such disruption based on the results of the investigation.

Some 250,000 people had their water supply interrupted for more than one week due to technical problems at the Sohar desalination plant last week.

Residents of three governorates expressed their dissatisfaction over such an interruption in water supply.

The authority also conducted another separate investigation into the technical issues at the Sohar plant that did not have an effect on water supplies run by the Sohar Power Company, according to the Oman Daily newspaper.
