Muscat:  Oman and Britain have decided to set up a joint working group between the two governments.

Yousuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, inked the agreement with William Hague, UK's Foreign Secretary, on the sidelines of the visit of Queen Elizabeth II.

The two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the close and special relationship between the two countries. And to further enhance this relationship a joint working group was decided to be established, with its first meeting to be held early in 2011.

The two also signed another agreement on Friday at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel, according to a report by ONA. Under the agreement, the two sides agreed for reciprocal exemption of visa for the holders diplomatic and special passport holders. The agreement will be enforced in near future, a joint statement said.

Yousuf Bin Alawi hoped that the agreement with UK would serve as security and stability in the region and elsewhere. He pointed out that the agreement for joint committee would work as an umbrella for exisiting cooperation and agreements between Oman and UK.

Hague said that his visit to Oman was a good opportunity to build closer ties between the two countries.
