Muscat: Police at Muscat International Airport seized 10,000 capsules containing narcotics from passengers trying to smuggle the drugs into the country in March.
The contraband uncovered included 4,244 capsules of Tramadol, 290 capsules of Alprazolam, 2,000 capsules of Diazepam, and 2,000 capsules of Clonesepam.
An official at the Royal Oman Police said that most of the narcotics were found during regular screening processes with devices like X-ray scanners at the airport.
An official at the Directorate General for Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances told Gulf News that most of the narcotics were being smuggled into the country via the sea given Oman’s proximity to Asian countries that are sources of such drugs.
