Muscat: Oman police busted an international drug cartel with two gang members from different areas of the country and made a huge drug haul, according to a press release issued by the Royal Oman Police.

“A total of 671 capsules filled with heroin were found from two accused,” a spokesman for the ROP’s Public Relations Department said.

He revealed that working on a tip off about peddlers connected to an international drug ring were operating in Oman, the police teams from Anti-Narcotics Department raided a hideout in Muttrah suburb of Muscat and caught a suspect with 375 capsules of heroin.

The second accused, he revealed, was caught from Barka town, about 90-km north of Muscat. “He had 296 capsules of heroin in his possession,” he revealed.

The ROP have handed over both the accused to the Public Prosecution for further action.

Meanwhile, ROP’s officers from Criminal Investigation Department have arrested one person from Suwaiq, about 150km north of Muscat, on charges of practicing sorcery and committing fraud.

According to the ROP spokesman, the accused claimed that he had powers to heal most of the diseases and therefore, many people paid him loads of money for a cure for their illnesses.

Following a series of such incidents, the ROP has warned the public against seeking sorcerers’ help for finding cure or for resolving personal problems. The ROP officials pointed out that sorcerers are, in fact, swindlers and sorcery is considered a crime punishable by law. The ROP has cautioned citizens and residents against the practice of sorcery, which is alien to the Omani society.

In Dhofar police arrested five Asians for violating the cyber law. The accused were allegedly providing illegal phone service in Salalah, about 1100-km south of Muscat.
