Muscat: Oman police arrested five people on charges of stealing four vehicles, according to a press release issued by the Royal Oman Police.

“The five were arrested from Thumrait (about 1,016km south of Muscat) area in Dhofar region,” a spokesman for the ROP’s Public Relations Department said.

He added that the five were trying to smuggle the vehicles out of Oman.

According to the release, three of the four vehicles were stolen from a car rental company in Muscat. “The fourth car was reported missing by an Omani,” the spokesman added. He added that after being tipped off, the ROP officers kept a close watch on stolen vehicles. “First the officers caught two cars at the Qatbit check post and two other cars were hidden at a filling station in the same area,” he revealed.

All the accused have been handed over to the Public Prosecution for further investigations and court proceedings.
