Muscat: Oman Grand Mufti Ahmad Al Khalili’s son, who was stabbed by a Canadian resident over a dispute in Mawaleh district of Seeb province in February, dropped charges against the accused.

Omar Al Khalili, 17, dropped the case at the Public Prosecution and forgave the Canadian, effectively deeming the case closed instead of going to trial, according to Atheer news website.

Al Khalili sustained minor injuries on his arm and stomach when the Canadian stabbed him with a knife.

The altercation happened when Al Khalili tried to stop the Canadian expatriate who insisted on entering a mosque with his dog.

The Canadian was held in custody for further investigation. Residents of Mawaleh say the expatriate’s dog had earlier caused disturbances in the usually quiet district.

In October, two students sustained minor stab injuries on the Sultan Qaboos University campus during an altercation between them.
