Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have seized a record 11 kilogrammes of heroin from three Asian suspects in northern Batinah as Omani authorities intensify fight against drug trafficking and users in the country.

“The 1,463 capsules, weighing about 11kg is the biggest seizure this year so far,” a spokesman for the ROP said.

The three suspects were caught red-handed at a security checkpoint as they were trying to bring in the consignment into the industrial port town of Sohar on Tuesday.

The Batinah region, with its long coast, is used by drug traffickers to smuggle drugs into Oman along with attempts to traffic humans.
