- India said it has stamped out the last bird flu outbreak in the country in July, by culling all fowls in the affected farm.
Muscat: Oman has lifted the import ban on poultry and poultry products from India, according to a statement from the Indian Embassy in Muscat.
Oman’s decision follows a statement from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) that India is free from bird flu.
The decision was conveyed to Anil Wadhwa, Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate, when he called on Oman’s Agriculture Minister, Shaikh Salim bin Hilal al Khalili, on Monday.
The OIE declared India free from bird flu following government efforts to stamp out the last outbreak in July 2007 in a poultry farm in a north eastern Indian village.
All fowls in the area were culled, including those within five kilometres of the affected zone. This was followed by clean-up, disinfection and post-operation surveillance.
