Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has arrested five Asians from the Seeb suburb of Muscat on charges of smuggling and trading in narcotics, according to a press release.

The group, according a ROP spokesman, was in contact with an international gang. “When the police raided their den they were found in possession of 135 capsules of heroin, hashish and sums of money believed to be earned from the drug trade,” he said, adding that in addition police also confiscated mobile phones, stickers to hide the drugs as they were kept in bottles, and a digital scale to check the weight of narcotics.

The spokesman called on citizens and residents to keep cooperating with the ROP in reporting drug smugglers and traffickers by using the emergency number 9999 or the hotline number 1444.
