Muscat: The Omani government is calling on young entrepreneurs and innovators to help create ways to develop the sultanate's economy.
"This push by the government offers Oman's youth huge opportunities," said Sayyid Faisal Al Saeed, COO, Brand Oman Management Unit (BOMU) and organiser of the second Muscat Youth Summit.
Young people from 12 countries are to take part in the summit which opens on Monday at the Al Nadha Resort and Spa.
Muscat Youth Summit Project Manager Alya Al Hosani said: "The summit will provide an opportunity to listen to experienced entrepreneurs and leading business organisations to understand how entrepreneurial and innovative solutions have the potential to improve people, profit and the planet".
The summit will offer workshops on entrepreneurship, urban development and media and has been supported by UNESCO and Oman's Ministry of Education.
Presenters are to include representatives from organizations such as the Prince's Trust Youth Business International, The Commonwealth Secretariat, The Young Foundation, Aedas, GUTech, Atkins, Knowledge Horizon, SB.TV, Al Wisal FM, Omantel, Intilaaqah, Injaz, and Omran.
"We hope the Summit will equip the 180 attendees with the skills required to thrive in today's knowledge-based economy," Al Saeed said.
"We're particularly excited about the workshops on urban development.
"There's a powerful and compelling argument that the ability of Oman to compete globally and to meet the economic, environmental and social challenges of the 21st century rest largely on the health, vitality and prosperity of our nation's cities.
"Indeed, we stand at an important crossroads, and just like nations across the world, Oman is experiencing economic shifts that are rewriting the rules of how we create jobs, how we train people, how we build wealth and how we conserve our natural resources."
