Muscat: Following a red notice from Interpol, the Court of Rabat in Morocco has decided to hand over Omani national Mohammad Al Hashmi to the Omani authorities.

Al Hashmi, the owner of Al Haqiqa TV channel, was arrested for his involvement in fraud, sorcery, and selling herbs without a licence, according to Moroccan newspapers.

Al Hashmi criticised the court’s decision claiming that he would be tortured after his deportation to Oman. He is being detained at Zaki prison in Morocco.

He is on hunger strike in protest against his detention and has already spent 40 days in jail.

A number of workers at the Al Hashmi International Centre for medical herbs in Morocco staged a protest demanding his release.

Al Hashmi was arrested by the Moroccan security personnel when he arrived at the Casablanca Mohammad V Airport last January.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) had arrested him last year on charges of fraud and sorcery after complaints against him.

He is believed to have made a fortune from his business in medical herbs and the Al Haqiqa channel.

Meanwhile, many health institutions in the Arab world have warned not to deal with Al Hashmi for the side affects of his unlicensed medical herbs.
