Muscat: Lacroix Ruggieri of France won the World Fireworks Championship, held for the first time in Muscat as part of Oman’s 40th National Day anniversary celebrations.

The second prize was jointly awarded to Penzera of Italy and Vulcan of Hong Kong. Each display was judged on artistic interpretation, mood and flow, synchronisation to music and use of sound.

The six teams, which took part in the championship, from December 6-18, included, Vulcan: Hong Kong; Howard and Sons: Australia; Merlin: UK; Zabelli: USA; Panzera: Italy and Lacroix Ruggieri: France.

The winners, Lacroix Ruggieri of France, won the hearts of thousands of people last Friday when they created hearts and number 40 to signify Oman’s ruby anniversary of the National Day at the Qurum Nature park

"The criteria for the championship were 15 but they were taken into consideration broadly in four areas like innovation, technology, safety and subjective impression of the judges and mood of the audience,” Andrew Fielder, Chairman of the Judging Panel, said at the prize distribution ceremony held on Saturday night at the Crown Plaza Hotel.
