Muscat: The Royal Oman police (ROP) have arrested an Arab national while trying to sell stolen goods in the bylanes of Ruwi suburb in Muscat, according to a police press release on Saturday.

According to the release, the Ruwi police station received information about the accused selling gold ornaments and expensive branded watches at an old abandoned building in Ruwi.

“We caught the accused, who is an illegal resident of Oman, and found out that he had stolen the goods from different shops in Muscat,” a spokesman for the police said.

The policealso arrested an Omani citizen on charges of vandalising vehicles and stealing valuables from cars.

“We have had several complaints in the recent past about someone vandalising cars and stealing valuables from them,” a spokesman for the police said, adding that a close vigil helped them nab the culprit.

The police have advised motorists not to leave valuables like wallets and mobile phones, in parked vehicles.

In another case, Ruwi police cracked a case of increase in thefts of gas cylinders in the area with the arrest of two young Omanis. “One stole cylinders and another kept watch outside the buildings/houses,” the police said.

The ROP spokesman urged residents to keep cylinders in safe places or locked to avoid thefts that could also put them at risk of fire.
