Muscat: The officers from the Narcotic Control division at the Royal Oman police (ROP) arrested an illegal resident in Oman on charges of trafficking in narcotics, according to a press release issued on Sunday.

“An Asian was held for illegally entering Oman,” a spokesman for the ROP’s Public Relations Department said, adding that at the time of arrests in Seeb area of Muscat the police found 77 capsules of heroin in his possession. The accused, he revealed, was handed over to the Public Prosecution for further action.

The ROP spokesman urged residents to report any suspicious activities relating to narcotics by contacting police on 9999 or 1444.

The police have intensified their crackdown against drug cartel in Oman and are making arrests for drug trafficking almost on a daily basis. Recently, the ROP officers had unearthed cultivation of poppy seeds in Bahla, about 180km north-west of Muscat, and arrested three Asians for the crime.
