Road crashes claim 14 lives in one week

Muscat A young man, driving without a licence, killed two people as the death toll from road accidents last week reached 14. The speeding driver ran over three women after losing control of his vehicle in the residential neighbourhood of Mabella in Seeb district on Wednesday. Two women died on the spot while the third is battling for life at a hospital in Muscat.

 

Police arrest 14 'illegal immigrants'

Muscat The Royal Oman Police (ROP) Coast Guards arrested 14 people trying to illegally enter Oman by sea on the northern coast, according to a press release yesterday. A patrol spotted a boat near Shinas town coast and asked them to stop. When the boat continued its journey, the guards fired warning shots in the air in vain. Finally the coast guards chased the intruders and caught them.

Bahrain: Youth in hospital after shooting

Manama A mourner shot by police was in intensive care yesterday in Bahrain. The 15-year-old was shot by anti-riot police while attending the funeral of a citizen journalist killed during a protest in the kingdom late last month, the opposition said. Mohammad Ahmad Abdul Aziz was among several people wounded during the funeral ceremony.
