Muscat: Eid celebrations took a tragic turn on Sunday when one Omani family lost five children in an accident.
Four cars were involved in the high speed crash in the north of Oman at Wadi Hibi, near Sohar, in which the five teenage children died instantly.
Two other serious traffic accidents also occurred on the first two days of the holidays, resulting in the death of eight people in total.
A head-on collision in Shinas, also in the north of Oman, proved fatal for the occupant of one vehicle.
Two women died in an accident in Mudhaibi in the eastern region of the country in another collision between two vehicles travelling at high speed on a single track road.
As Eid Al Fitr holidays in Oman continue for two more days for the private sector and five more for the public sector, the police has urged residents to observe caution while driving, especially on single track roads. Police have also asked motorists to refrain from speeding or overtaking.
