First woman appointed at helm of legal department
Hussain Bin Ali Al Hilali, Prosecutor General, has appointed Assistant Prosecution General Jalila Bint Sulaiman Bin Khalfan Al Rawahi as Director of Prosecution-General department in the Wilayat of Birka, located about 100km north of the capital, Muscat.
Muscat: Hussain Bin Ali Al Hilali, the Prosecutor-General, has appointed Jalila Bint Sulaiman Bin Khalfan Al Rawahi as director of the prosecution-general department in the wilayat of Birka, located north of Muscat.
Jalila is the first woman to hold the post in Oman, says a press release issued on Tuesday.
"The appointment is an honour and I am thankful for the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos who has granted women in Oman equal rights and stressed their role in society," said Jalila."The new position means more responsibility to serve people," she added.
Jalila was born in Nizwa, 150km northwest of Muscat, and completed a bachelors degree in Law. In 2004, she was appointed as second assistant prosecution-general and promoted in January 2007 to first assistant prosecution-general.
