- A crash on Al Buraimi-Sohar Road in Oman on Thursday claimed the lives of nine people, including eight Emirati family members.
A 22-year-old female GCC national also died in the crash.
Eleven others, including eight Emiratis, sustained injuries, the press note said.
Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Beloushi, director of external roads and traffic at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said the bodies were transported to Al Ain and were buried on Friday.
Al Beloushi said the 11, who suffered moderate to severe injuries, were treated at Al Buraimi Hospital. The Abu Dhabi Police’s Rescue Department later transferred them to Tawam Hospital in Al Ain.

“It was a freak accident,” an eyewitness told Gulf News from Sohar. The witness said the accident occurred when power generators slipped off a Saudi-registered trailer truck and fell on the road going in the opposite direction.
“The truck swerved near Oman Mining Company and the power generators slipped and fell on the other side of the road,” the expatriate said on condition of anonymity.
“The three vehicles hit the power generators at high speed,” the witness said, adding that two of the vehicles were registered in the UAE.
The truck was on its way from Buraimi Wadi Jizi to Sohar while the three vehicles were going in the other direction.
