Muscat: An Emirati man was found dead in Wadi Kuhlah of the Mudhaibi province in northern Oman, after his vehicle was swept away by flood waters following three days of intensive rain.

Three other Emiratis who were in the car when it was swept away were pulled to safer ground by rescue personnel of the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (Pacda).

Authorities did not reveal the identity of the deceased but said his body would be airlifted to the UAE on Saturday evening.

The rescued Emiratis are in stable condition after receiving treatment at the Mudhabi hospital, according to a hospital source.

Another man of Asian origin was also found dead in Wadi Maedeen of Nizwa province on Friday afternoon.

The latest deaths bring the total death toll in the floods to eight. Another person was also reported missing on Saturday.

The body of an Omani national, who was presumed dead on Friday, was recovered by civil defence personnel on Saturday, also in the Nizwa province.

Meanwhile, a man who lost his wife and three daughters when their car was swept away by flood waters in Wadi Ghul in the province of Hamra is in stable condition at the Nizwa hospital after being rescued by civil defence personnel.

Sixteen nationals were rescued in different areas on Friday after their vehicles were swept away by flood waters in Wadi of Fayath of Buraimi, Wadi Al Mamoor of Bahla and Wadi Ahen of Sohar.

Three German cyclists trapped in the wadis of Dima wa Tayeen province on Friday were taken in by local residents who gave them food and shelter. They spent Friday night in one of the residents homes and left on Saturday morning.

The rain is a result of an approaching tropical depression in the Arabian Sea. More rain is expected in the northern parts of Oman in the coming 24 hours, according to the General Authority for Civil Aviation.
