Muscat:  The Royal Oman Police (ROP) caught some drug smugglers and foiled a bid to smuggle drugs to another Gulf country, according to a spokesperson for the ROP on Saturday.

“Two citizens were caught with 39 kilograms of hashish in the Musandam region while Asian was found to be in possession of 68,000 (sixty eight thousands) tablets of banned substances,” Captain Rashid Al Abry, told Gulf News.

“The Asian landed on the Musandam coast and later confessed that they intended to transfer the drugs from Musandam to a Gulf country on a vehicle of a company operating out of the region,” he added.

He added that the police got a tip off the accused citizens would receive the contraband from the Asian and help transfer out of the country.

Sensing trouble the accused tried to escape but police chased them down in the Musandam mountains range.
