Muscat: Theatre aficionados in Oman are enjoying the May heat as one after another top production houses from India are visiting the country with top notch plays.

First Light and Shadows ‘The Blue Mug’, 75 minutes of monologues with a few conversations by leading Indian film personalities like Konkona Sen, Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Rajat Kapoor and others.

Tomorrow (Wednesday), Indian film actress Shabana Azmi will play a double role in a psychological thriller, ‘Broken Images’ to enthral audiences at the Shangrila’s Bar Al Jizza Resort and Spa. ‘Broken Images’ is directed by Alyque Padamsee, and written by Girish Karnad, and brought to Oman by NPA Events.

Then there will be the ‘Original Theatre Festival’ of six plays brought to Oman by Eventful LLC.

The plays will be staged between May 7 and May 21 at the Indian Embassy’s auditorium.

First Rahul da Cunha’s Chaos Theory will be staged on Friday followed by The President on May 10. It is a story about six Indians willing to pay any price to shake hands with the US president. 

A mono act, Shakkar Ke Paanch Daane is slated for May 13 and actor Kumud Misra will hold the stage. An entertaining mix of nostalgia and cinema, Mahim Junction is a tribute to the city of dreams Mumbai and its favourite child, Bollywood. Mahim Junction will be staged on May 15. The play is by Sohaila Kaput, the sister of director Shekar Kapur.

Tere Bhi Chup Mere Bhi Chup directed by Dinyar Contractor and starring Ali Asgar, Swapnil Joshi is for May 16.

Akash Khurana who regaled Muscat audience with All About Women last year will present Jake’s Women on May 21. Jake, a novelist who is more successful with fiction than with life, faces a marital crisis by daydreaming about the women in his life. The wildly comic and sometimes moving flashbacks played in his mind are interrupted by visitations from actual females.
