- Police in Oman have foiled an attempt by traffickers to smuggle illegal drugs through the country.
Muscat: A daring attempt to smuggle heroin filled in 173 capsules, swallowed by two alleged drug traffickers, was busted at the Muscat International Airport by a team from the Directorate of Narcotics Control.
"The two suspects were caught trying to enter the country with 173 capsules concealed in stomach of each of the trafficker," Ali Al Kasbi, a spokesperson for the Royal Oman Police (ROP) Public Relations, said in a press release.
He said that the two had put their lives at risk while working as couriers by swallowing such a large amount of heroin. "They were taken to the ROP hospital where the capsules were flushed out," he revealed.
"The two were caught when their behaviour, on arrival at the Muscat International Airport from an Asian country, appeared abnormal," he added.
The police believe that the market value of the seized drug could be over 100,000 Omani riyals. "The seized drugs will be destroyed," Al Kasbi revealed.
In another case, the ROP team foiled an attempt by two traffickers to smuggle psychotropic substances, hashish and heroin through the Dibah town in Musandam area. Both were arrested.
Meanwhile, the police in Musandam also arrested three women, who had entered the country illegally. A man was also arrested for helping them.
