Muscat: An Arab man who was part of a car smuggling operation has been caught by the Royal Oman Police (ROP).
The Combat of Crime Department of the Directorate-General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigation of Royal Oman Police (ROP) became aware that the Arab national was renting cars from companies, passing them on to be smuggled to other countries where they were sold and then reporting them stolen.
The accused had been under surveillance after renting a car from a company in Dhofar before passing it on to an Omani man.
The man was caught with another in the Haima region trying to sell the car to a citizen of a neighbouring country.
Later another man, also from Oman, who was co-ordinating the sale of the vehicle, was apprehended.
Police detained the man who rented the car when he came to report it as stolen. The four accused men have also been referred to the General Prosecution.
