Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) and other security units sealed off the entire embassy district in the capital following a bomb threat at the Bahrain embassy on Tuesday morning.

It turned out it was a hoax, an official source told Gulf News.

The official added that the operation centre of the police received a call reporting that there was a suspicious object found in front of the Bahrain Embassy at 10am.

“Upon examination, the object turned out to a copy of the holy Quran,” he said.

The official said that an investigation is underway into the incident.

The official declined to give further details as to whether the caller had been identified or apprehended.

This is the first known bomb hoax in the embassy quarter of the Omani capital.
