Muscat: Six Omanis were arrested over the kidnapping, robbery and murdering of a fuel station attendant in Sunainah province last Friday, says an official at Oman’s police.

The victim is identified as John Philip, an Indian. His body was found in Masrooq area of Ibri province on Wednesday, with bruises on his body.

The official added that the culprits assaulted the victim last Friday when he was working at the fuel station at night. They stole more than 4,000 riyals and they damaged CCTV cameras of the fuel station.

Investigation is underway and the six accused will be referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and trial.

Last April, an Indian nurse was murdered at her residence in Salalah province, southern part of Oman, after she was stabbed to death, said Oman’s police. Her husband and a Pakistani national are under detention.

Last May, Five Omanis were arrested in two murder cases.

Three Omanis, including a woman, have been arrested by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) over the murder of another national.

In another case, two Omanis were accused of murdering a compatriate in his fifties in Nakhal province.

Murder is rare in Oman. In 2015, only six murders were reported.
