Muscat: In a daring armed robbery thieves decamped with 90,000 Omani riyals (Dh856,318)from a leading Omani factory in the Jiffnain area on the outskirts of Muscat on Thursday night.

“Our CCTV cameras have caught the duo in the act but they were wearing masks,” Jamal Shamis Al Hooti, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Cement Company, told Gulf News.

He said that robbers tied up a company employee and threatened him with knives to reveal the location of the cash and hand over the keys. “The company employee was scared and had no option but to hand over the keys,” he said, adding that the robbers took away 90,000 riyals from the safe.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have launched intense investigations to trace the perpetrators who robbed the cement factory on Thursday at 9pm.

The Muscat Security Market-listed company has notified the insurance company about the robbery as well as the MSM.

According to a source at the ROP, this is probably a first instance of armed robbers targeting a big company.
