Muscat: An Arab expatriate has been sentenced to a 15-year jail term for committing murder, Arabic newspaper Al Watan reported.
The accused was arrested within two days of recovery of a body in Izki Wilayat, the report said. The body had started decomposing when a citizen reported to the Royal Oman Police (ROP).
The police found a copy of business card of the deceased from the scene of the crime and footprints on the wet soil. The accused was arrested while trying to fly out of the country.
The report said that he led police to the place where he had hidden the knife with which he allegedly stabbed the victim several times. The police also recovered a SIM card from the accused that belonged to the victim.
The Appeals Court in Nizwa also ordered the accused to pay diya as well as all the legal expenses to the relatives of the deceased.
The accused was ordered to be deported and never allowed to re-enter Oman.
No details of the nationalities or names of either the deceased or accused were given in the report.
