Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Manpower have fined 26 companies for violating the mid-day break rule, according to Salim Bin Saeed Al Badi, Director General for Labour Welfare at the Ministry of Manpower.
The Ministry last year issued a directive to all construction companies in the country to stop work at all sites between noon and 3pm, from June to August.
“The mid-day break aims at providing relief to workers from the oppressive summer temperatures,” he pointed out.
He added that the ministry teams visited 172 institutions up to mid-July, 34 of them oil and gas companies.
“The ministry’s efforts are aimed at proving a healthy working environment for the workforce employed in the private sector,” he said.
Al Badi revealed that the ministry had formed teams of specialists to conduct mid-day field visits at institutions to ensure they were abiding by the rules.
